Whether you are a teen or a parent of a teen with diabetes, transitioning from parental supervision to independence can be a tricky and overwhelming situation. Teaching decision-making skills will help your teen manage their diabetes successfully once they have flown the coop. Diabetes doesn't vanish once your child isn't a "juvenile" anymore, so educating your teen on how to handle challenging situations will keep everyone safe and secure. Both parents and teens are welcome.
Allison Blass is 22 years old and has had type 1 diabetes for 14 years. She is the founder and former moderator of DiabetesTeenTalk.com and she currently blogs about her life with diabetes at Lemonade Life. She has mentored hundreds of teens and parents over the years and has written articles on diabetes for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and Diabetes Self-Management. When she's not actively involved in the diabetes community, Allison works for a public relations firm in New Jersey.
