i have been thinking about the pump. A few things though, I have very vivid memory's of the early 80s models that had a body count. Also, I have noticed that type ones on the pump can get a bit evangelical about it. But one of my co-workers is on the pump and had a sane its not perfect discussion about it with me. The other two guys in application development on pumps got all evangelical ( drink the coolaid and wear your pump ) 8^)
Anyways, I worry about certain things, like the warning time between you should change your battery and the thing going dead. Then there are the lifestyle things. How well does it tolerate heat? I am nearly 100% Scandinavian which means that I will pass on the Sauna when I am dead. Also, I tend to run my baths pretty close to dangerously hot, and thats once or twice a week. Then there are the not at work activities. This is the last year of working on the house, but I have some fairly dramatic home improvement work going on.. My work shirts are loaded with holes from various things I have walked past in the project room and gotten snagged up on.. I am pretty sure that if I had a tub sticking out of my side I would hang on every doorknob, nail and loose bit of trim in the world, then the cats would have at it in the night.
I will be getting a minimed 722 within the next week or so. I can't wait for the pump. I'm anxious about the insertion of the infusion sets but it can't be worse than four to six or more shots per day.
Dana, If you find the infusion sets to be "too painful" (and the Sensors are worse), you could use LMX-4 or Topicaine. Just put on one drop at the site about an hour before, cover it with saran wrap so it doesn't dry up during the wait time, and then wash with soap and wipe clean with alcohol/IV-prep afterwards. A bit of advance planning can take care of the "problem". I need a full 75 minutes of contact, but most people need only one hour.
I pump with the MiniMed 512 and use Quickset infusion sets. I will be upgrading to a 522 or 722 as soon as I get my housing and financial situation figured out and can put a little more time into the appeal (I do not want to pay for almost half of the cost) - but I WILL NOT be going back to shots.
I orginally started out with a minimed 508 years ago, then it died and rather than get another, I began using my daughter's Cozmo since I had to take her off of it a couple of years ago. I was able to upgrade my minimed in June, and got a Paragim 715 which I wore for about a month, and decided that I really didn't like it as much as I liked the Cozmo, so I sent the minimed back and got myself a Cozmo. I love it :)
