DIABETEStalkfest

Linking Diabetics Coast 2 Coast

The mission of DIABETEStalkfest is to support young adults through adults, families and friends that have been affected by diabetes.

We help to create friendships and support through the use of message boards and chat rooms.

Jon and Gina, met on a diabetes message board in February of 2001 but never in person. They communicate mainly through the use of Aol Instant Messenger and through their online message board. In the past years, they have formed a lasting friendship and business partnership.

Gina, a Type 1 pumper, proudly represents New York, and her partner Jon who has a 15 yr old son with type 1 diabetes, represents California. Together they unite people living with diabetes with their online diabetes support group DIABETEStalkfest. It is their dream to unite as many diabetics as possible to share information and experience in dealing with this difficult condition.

The amazing thing about this website is that you can find real friendships and support, by expressing yourself through the message board, or connecting with other people in the chat room.

Join the fun, informative crowd of DIABETEStalkfest! Everybody’s doing it ;)

Gina, you and Jon have done and are doing a wonderful job. I'm glad you decided to create this website. If it wasn't for online websites, we Type 1s wouldn't have a support group since we are not in the majority as Type 2s. Thank you!!!

I just came across this I think it is wonderful to find a community of people that have one thing in common. Diabetes is hard enough but when you factor all of lifes small and big issues it sometimes gets overwhelming. I have severe lows like 12,27,18 meter reads very scary I wonder if there is anybody else who has this?

I'm very excited to have found your group. Thankfully, I don't have diabetes but my brother passed away from diabetes, Type 1 and my mother has Type 1. My whole family has health related issues, high blood pressure, underactive thyroid and low sugar problems. I am on the cusp of Type 2 but my doc is not worried because I cook and eat so well plus I understand how to balance my meals.

Teaching my delicious, simple approach to wok cooking really helps diabetics/people with health problems feel they're not deprived but can enjoy TASTY food!

I have donated quite a lot to the local DRI (Diabetes Research Institute) fundraising events with my cooking class certificates. I've also invited their staff and clients free classes.

I write extensively about health and diets and look forward to helping anyone in your group who is interested to change their lifestyle habits with a fun, creative, tasty style of cooking and eating: http://eleanorhoh.com/Health.html

Hi Eleanor,

I'm wondering about something: You look so slim and you're on the cusp on developing diabetes? How is that? Did you lose weight? I was pre diabetic about two years ago and I brought my blood sugar down to normal within weeks all by myself including a twelve pound weight loss within the first four weeks. I couldn't wait almost two months to see a dietician recommended by my primary care physician. I live in Canada and we have a national health care program so there's always a waiting list for specialists. I lost 35 pounds over the course of the year and gained back 10 pounds, but I'm not worried because my weight is within the normal range.

I don't have a wok, but I like to use the non-stick skillet now and then. I live in a small condo so I don't have much space to keep pots and pans and such. What kind of oil do you use in your wok? Do you think that sesame oil is all right for flavoring meats and noodles?
