Hello Alan,

Wow! You're off Humalog! That's wonderful. It's good you're still losing weight. I was prediabetic over a year ago, and I've since lost about 35 pounds. I just have a little more to lose, perhaps five or ten pounds. So my blood sugar has been normal for at least a year. I intend to keep it normal for the rest of my life! My dad is diabetic and he's on Metformin and Lipitor. He has lost over twenty pounds and he decided to cut down on desserts. He still eats too many carbs, though. I'd like to wish you luck in slimming down. Keep it up and please let us know how you're progressing, because it's always inspiring to hear of these milestones. I like to think that we can learn from each other.

I am a 57 year old male who lives in Southern Ontario Canada who just found out at 11:00 am this morning that "I am a serious diabetic" from my doctor.I had bloodwork done for my annual physical last thursday and wasa called my doctor yesterday that he needed to see me ASAP I was able to get a ride this am (I live 40 miles from my doctor and do not drive.)my sister took me down to his office and he told me my blood sugar last thursday was 15.2 and when I was tested at the pharmacy
where I got my meter it was 17.1.I just tested myself this evening around 6pm and I was at 11.1
Right now I am terrified as I also have Hepititus :C: and My grandfather passed away from Diabetes in 1976.I know they have come along way since then but I am still scared sh**less. My doctor is scrambling to get me into a hospital for a bunch of tests but it looks like Friday at the earliest,I am staying with my youngest sister right now as she is a R.Nurse.

Hey,

It seems scary, but you can do something to help yourself to feel better. Are you type II diabetic? Ask your doctor to send you to a dietician. He/she can help you to come up with a diet plan. My dietician explained about calories, carbs, fat, etc. Give it a try. And get into an exercise program.

Good luck and let us know you're coming along.

Hello all my name is Jeremy Schmidt and I have been a type 1 diabetic for the last 19 years. I will be celebrating my 20th year with this disease on Jan 29th of next year. I have been doing education on diabetes for the last 14 years or so. When I was in high school I helped to counsel new type 1 diabetics. Currently I work as a diabetes educator for a large clinic. I also work independently for a smaller clinic as well. I am also working on pursuing my nurse practioner. My eventual goal is to work with kids so I can help make a difference before it is too late. I very happy to join a network like this to help benefit all diabetics. Remember with diabetes either you control it or it controls you!!! The glucerna statement but personally I have been using it a lot longer. :)

HiPamela,

It's great that you're losing weight. You can always count on us for friendship and support. For other friends, have you tried a local chapter of your diabetes association? If you live in Canada or the USA, there is the Canadian Diabetes Association and the American Diabetes Association. Both have chapters spread throughout North America. Good luck and let us know how you're coming along.

Hi again,

I do hope you'll be able to go out soon. I haven't been to a diabetes chapter meeting yet, but I went to an excellent diabetes convention in Toronto, ON, Canada (where I live) in the spring of 2007. If they show up in Toronto again I'll definitely attend. They're very helpful with everything regarding diet, medication, diabetic snack foods, insurance, etc. There were quite a few booths promoting various brands of blood glucose meters. I quickly skipped over those, having chickened out. Hahahaha. I was prediabetic then and should have been tested right then and there to see where I was, but I just couldn't do it. I'm normal now and I'm thankful for all the support I got from my friends at a diabetes online chatroom.

Hi Pamela My name is Marcel DesRoches I am a 57 year old man living in Port Colborne,Ontrio,Canada.I just found out I have diabetes last Wednesday. My doctor prescribed a meter for me and ran somemore tests.I am still waiting for those results but I use my meter 4 times a day.I am lucky I guess my Dr.told me to use it at least 4 times a day until I get more test results,When I 1st checked my meter at the pharmacy as they where showing me how to use it the numbers that popped up was 17.1 since then it has been all over the place the lowest was about 1 hour ago at 6.1 my average for the week is 9.6 1 hour ago.I found this site by accident and it was a lucky accident,I have got nothing but good support and I feel a lot better about my self,I als suffer from Hepititus "C" so I had to have that checked again last Friday and am waiting for the results of that. That is the hardest part for me "waiting"as I am told I am a very impatient man.I wish you all the best and hope to chat with you in the future.
Marcel.
