I like to read about diabetes and research too. Even though I'm not diabetic, I was pretty close to having it. I'm normal now. I'm still learning about the human body. I find it very interesting. I took a night school course on anatomy & physiology a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
hi every one ,I am Deanna Ilive in fallon it is a small ag town about 60 miles from reno,I am new to this and have come down from 444 to the 200 to 126 range, never lower yet,I never really ate much sugar but I know thats not the reason ,Ireally kind of a health nut so I was alittle upset when I found I had this well any how its nice to meet you all, deanna
Nice to meet you too. You say you don't eat much sugar, but do you eat a lot of carbohydrate rich foods such as pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, etc. It's not always the sugar that you watch for. It's everything you eat. Do you take medication to help lower blood sugar?
My name is April. I'm 35, married 2yrs and have a 17yr old step daughter. I was diagnosed as insulin resistant in 2002 and was told to diet and exercise. In 2003 they told me I was Type 2 and put me on pills. Last month they tell me I have the antibodies that are attacking my system and I'm transistioning to type 1. I started insulin about a month ago and am waiting for approval from the dr. & ins to get a pump. My sister has had type 1 most of her life. She is an inspiration as are all of you. My "big sis" can handle anything and I question myself often if I'm strong enough to fight this constant battle that is my life. I find hope and encouragement thru all of you and I thank you all for sharing to give people like me a smile and a strong backbone to say I can and will live my life to the fullest diabetes or not!
I am so happy you all joined. this is so exciting. I hope that you will all continue to help contribute to the DTF and help it grow. We are going to have so many new things happening and can't wait to show you all the new features!
You have my encourage too, to live life to the fullest. People with diabetes can live their full life span. I hope you're getting a lot of advice about diet and exercise in order to stay as healthy as you can.
Hi Gina...I'm 27 years old..My bday is tomorrow so I will have diabetes for 18 years now. I use a paradigm insulin pump and have used it for about 6 years now. I just graduated from medical school and i'm studying for licensing exams and want to start residency soon..so I can use my own experience as a rebellious teen and use it to help other adolescents up to age 25 who get confused with type 2 diabetics and dont get the care they need. I love your site and think its very helpful!! Thanks a bunch
It's inspiring to know that you plan to educate young people about Type I diabetes. I think it's equally important to educate students in general about Type II diabetes. It's frightening that kids are developing Type II diabetes due to overeating the wrong foods and living a sedentary lifestyle.
Hey everyone! My name is Mollie, i live in nevada, I'm 18, and i've had diabetes for almost 14 years. I was diagnosed on Sept. 8, 1993. And i was on insulin shots for 7 years, but switched to the insulin Pump on January 1st, 2000, and have loved it ever since. I've been writing a blog since 2003, and recently switched over to www.curemoll.com, and so thats my blog about my daily life with diabetes.
Anyways, this looks like an awesome group of people, im glad to be a part of it!
I'm glad you're enjoying your trip. I hope you visit Canada. It's a wonderful place to live, and you'll love our country. I live in Toronto, Ontario. If you come to Toronto, try our subway system. You can easily get around because it's just a simple U-shape for going northbound and southbound, and for travelling eastbound and westbound, it's just a single line going east/west. It's hard to get lost on our subway line (my opinion). Anyway, have fun.
My name is Susan/Suzie, and I've had Type 1 for about 28 years. I was nursing my youngest daughter who will be 28 in September. I have been on the Pump for 7 years, right after my middle daughter got married. This is how I remember these time frames. I am 56 years old, and a Grandma of a 2 year old boy. I am a Docent Naturalist, Vegetarian, make jewelry, read, and spend a lot of time taking blood tests and monitoring diabetes. It's my hardest job.
Taking blood tests and monitoring diabetes IS a job! I believe there WILL BE a cure for Type I diabetes one day. Good luck and keep us posted about your life.
