What was your funniest diabetic moment? If you never had a low, tell us something funny that happend to you.
It wasn't funny at the time but looking back, it brings a smile. I was on my way to Chicago on an American Airlines flight from NY and I closed my eyes to catch a few zzzzz's before dinner was served. The next thing I knew I woke up in the ER at a hospital in Detroit with an IV pumping Glucose and Saline into my arm. I was told that the flight attendants could not wake me up and noticed my Diabetes Med Bracelet. They notified the Captain who landed in Detroit and I was brought to the ER for treatment of hypoglycemia. My blood sugar at the time was in the 20's. The next day I continued my travel to Seattle, WA to join my join my friends at a Scientific Trade Show.
What is your favorite snack to treat a low?
My favorite snack for a LOW are the Special K Cereal Bars that have between 16 and 18 grams of CHO. They are quick acting and easy to carry. I also like the kids 4 oz Juicy Juice boxes with 14 to 16 grams of CHO. And I always have Glucose Tablets with me for a quick fix. They work for me.
What kind of treatment are you on?
I am on insulin pump therapy using an Animas 2020 Pump with Novolog
I went to the Boston Diabetes EXPO to learn as much as I could about CGMS from Dexcom and Abbott Diabetes. I decided I would like to try it and I was just approved to do a trial with the Dexcom7 in a Loaner Program at a local hospital.medical center.
A Happy and Healthy New Year to everyone at Talkfest.
I have my fingers crossed for the discovery of a cure for diabetes this year. I do it every year. I guess I am an optimist.

Its official now, as of the Friday after this past Thanksgiving I have been living 40 years with with T1 diabetes. A lot has happened during those 40 years and I hope to see a cure before the end of the next 40. I have been telling everyone that my next goal is to live another 10 years at least so I can walk up to the podium at the Joslin Clinc and get my 50 years living with T1 diabetes medal. So I will stay healthy and fit and keep doing more of the things that work and less of those that don't. Good advice from the LIVabetes Glucose Goddess (www.livabetes.com).
