What is your blood sugar right now?

What was your funniest diabetic moment? If you never had a low, tell us something funny that happend to you.

I was 18 and working my way through college at a supermarket. I started home after work but had a low and did not know. I made a turn at an intersection but passed out while doing so. My car left the road, went down a hill and into a shallow creek. Several guys from a bar across the street went to see about me. I did not know they were there, I was out cold. When I woke up my parents and two policemen were standing over me. I guess the bar guys found my phone number and called them. I was not hurt. My Mother had given me sugar. This was 1957 and there were no glucose tabs then. No meters for testing either. All the bar guys thought I was drunk. My speech was slurred so I didn't blame them. The cops had never heard of diabetes. My Mother had to explain but she was not sure they believed her. My car was not damaged. I was back on the road and driving to college the next morning. The super market crew all heard about this and I was teased all week about tying one on after work. They knew I did not drink at all. I took a lot of ribbing about my diabetes back then. People knew nothing about diabetes during my early years.

What is your favorite snack to treat a low?

I prefer skittles to glucose tabs. They seem to work about as quickly and taste much better. One carb per skittle.

I prefer fruit for lows that are not serious.

What kind of treatment are you on?
