What type are you? Or you can write that you have a friend or relative with diabetes.

What was your funniest diabetic moment? If you never had a low, tell us something funny that happend to you.
hmmmmmmmmm...................

Funny is an odd way to describe my lows. When I get down far enough I have very vivid hallucinations. sometimes they are of the fun sort sometimes I am living the movie Jacobs Ladder.

So, once back in college I missed the morning eating on the way into my very early German IV class. All was well, and I went to the campus job afterwards when the drowseys hit me. I put my head down on the desk for a bit and then tried to login and check email. It must have taken 10 minutes to login, as I no longer knew my password. I decided that I must not be feeling well and for some unknown reason walked over to the student Union, where I apparently wandered around in a daze for a while somehow I ended up at the Union where they were having a we love our customers have a cookie and some juice day. For some reason I was waiting in the line for a teller when a friend of mine noticed me and thankfully noticed something was wrong. Alex was a tall skinny very Italian looking guy wtih long hair and a goatee. He was trying to give me cookies and juice but, all I could see was the prince of darkness offering me food. After a few moments of hesitation I figured that cannot be all bad and ate up. By then my sugars were probably darn close to single digit so it was going to be a while before I was back to normal. I did a bank transaction and moved on. I ran into another friend of mine he wanted to chat me up but it was difficult for me to look at him. This was mostly because it seemed like his head was actually a helium balloon he was holding. I moved on still freaked out. Finally I ended up in front of the bookstore, one of my co-workers saw me and was shouting to me from down the hall, and I could have sworn he was some sort of ogre or small giant, coming right for me. By then though I was starting to get better and when he got to me and saw the look on my face asked if I was feeling ok, then he suggested I sit down relax and have a smoke. I pulled out a tasty black russian lit up and was suddenly ok. As I was going through the events in my head I checked my back pocket and discovered that I had withdrawn 2000$ for no particular reason.

There was also the time I was driving to work in Chicago ( I work on the north side ) but ended up somewhere on the wrong part of the deep south side. When I called work they had to google maps to get me directions to safty.

What is your favorite snack to treat a low?
don't really have one, whatever makes me not low the fastest wins. I don't really get to enjoy food when my blood sugar is low.
What kind of treatment are you on?
lantus + humalog
How did you find us?

Some link somewhere while I was reading up on Dr. Faustmans progress.

Yea its been a while..

So,

I am still alive and kicking.. I have been out in Seattle since last September. Its nice out here, Its easy to find Milwaukee transplants out here as well. I think, Boston would have been easier on me if I was not spending so much time feeling really alone and outsiderish. 8^P Seattle has been mostly excellent though, since I had a supportive social network already out here, and can be more myself out here as well. Work is conveniently located a few blocks from a decent endo, and a not so d… Continue

crossing the country

bleh...

I have done plenty of flying in the last few months. Boston to Seattle is a long long flight. I spent a chunk of the flight out fighting a vaguely persistent low. Thankfully, I had the foresight to grab a bag of peanut M&M's on the way to the gate.

Then there was the interview. Overall it went pretty darn well. But, it was long. Really long. 10:30am to 4pm, annoyingly around 3 my blood sugar plummeted. Thankfully, I caught on to what was happening pretty fast and got the interviewe… Continue

nothing sucks ass like waking up really really low

so, all of a sudden this morning I was half awake laying on my back pushing my left fist into the side of my face and itching my right knee with my other hand. I stayed like that for a while and really contemplated the pronunciation of p-y-c-n-o-g-e-n-o-l. The word was just sitting there stuck in my head playing over and over again like a broken record. Then I remembered that someone in the weird dream I was having had told me I needed to get up an eat something. Still I did nothing for a bit bu… Continue

Wir Sind Nich Allein

So,

I have been talking walks at lunch. Between that and the nightly 2 miles I am probably getting very close to 3 miles a day on the very good days. So, I was walking back from lunch the other day and along the path I ran into a freestyle flash stick. It pretty much couldn't be mine, since I do a pretty good job of getting those into the trash immediately after use. It just served to remind me that where ever I am, I am probably not far from another type 1. I was left wondering how often my pe… Continue

The drama continues

So, just about the same time that I was getting used to being here, things started changing again. I had just gotten done picking out furniture at Ikea, and had arranged to have my game rig shipped east when I got an email. Yes, it now looks like I will be flying west again to have in in-person interview with the place I wanted to end up originally. If that goes well, I will be driving west for my new life in Seattle. 8^) Everything is falling into place.. Damm good thing I only picked up hanger… Continue

I understand exactly what you mean. There are times I would love to do that on purpose but I hate the rebounds.

hmm

I have the appointment to see the Doc about the usual stuff with an extra special added note to him that we are supposed to be talking about the pump.. Thats on October 2, at 9:15am.. Needless to say I am counting the minutes. 8^)

On the lows, actually I am cursed.. I have only blacked out from a dramatic bad news low once. I have had a number of them over the years where I should not remember a thing from but its all there in full color and gets imprinted so deep that there is no forgetting a single moment or even the smallest detail. Since 1980, I have had a total of 4 can't talk non communicative incapable of making speech kind of lows. I remember every detail from all of them. Especially the fun I would love to express this idea to you all but I cannot because the part of my brain that makes external communication happen has blue screened. The funny thing is one of the times I got writing back way ahead of everything else. The penmanship was pretty bad, but they managed to make out honey good orange juice bad and screw you guys. 8^) Yea, even low I manage to maintain a sense of humor.

Good health to you guys as well..

Ivan!
