so, all of a sudden this morning I was half awake laying on my back pushing my left fist into the side of my face and itching my right knee with my other hand. I stayed like that for a while and really contemplated the pronunciation of p-y-c-n-o-g-e-n-o-l. The word was just sitting there stuck in my head playing over and over again like a broken record. Then I remembered that someone in the weird dream I was having had told me I needed to get up an eat something. Still I did nothing for a bit bu…

So,
I have been talking walks at lunch. Between that and the nightly 2 miles I am probably getting very close to 3 miles a day on the very good days. So, I was walking back from lunch the other day and along the path I ran into a freestyle flash stick. It pretty much couldn't be mine, since I do a pretty good job of getting those into the trash immediately after use. It just served to remind me that where ever I am, I am probably not far from another type 1. I was left wondering how often my pe…

So, just about the same time that I was getting used to being here, things started changing again. I had just gotten done picking out furniture at Ikea, and had arranged to have my game rig shipped east when I got an email. Yes, it now looks like I will be flying west again to have in in-person interview with the place I wanted to end up originally. If that goes well, I will be driving west for my new life in Seattle. 8^) Everything is falling into place.. Damm good thing I only picked up hanger…

Hi! I'm Lindsay and I'm a 26-year-old living in DC. I was diagnosed with Type I diabetes when I was 13--so I've been dealing with this half of my life. I've been on an insulin pump for the last four years and I like it. My best H1c was my most recent--7.1. I'd really, really like to bring it down but I have a pretty intense sweet tooth and a difficult time cutting back on foods I like. I've done a much better job in the last year but and still definitely looking for tips about how to make foods…

Its been a long weekend...
I flew home for a long weekend of seeing my cats, sleeping in my bed and seeing my girlfriend. Thanks to the weather I got stuck sitting at the boston airport for 4 hours on Thursday, and then 5 hours in Milwaukee last night. So, I managed to get home last night at 3am. 8^P
There were some cool things about the trip and it was totally worth the trouble. I noticed last week that I was now fitting the size smaller pants I brought with me. So, when I got home I finally…

We are leaving on our 17 hour flight Tuesday, June 10. We should be back mid July. Preparing for this adventure has been an experience. My husband retired and our insurance changed June 1st. It has been a challenge trying to get two months of medications, which equal to 10, insulin, pump supplies, and test strips. we had to pay for most of it up front (over $1,000) and get reimbursed for 80%, in 5 weeks. I picked up doctor prescribed shoes that gave me a blister, while wearing socks. Now I have…

So, the drama of where I will end up living and where I will end up working continues. I had good interview with Amazon last week. But, since then I have not heard a thing. I talked to my friend there and apparently they are pretty busy which could be the reason for the silence. At the same time, I am usually not impressed by slow decision making processes. So, along comes another. They are in Seattle, which is where I want to end up. They have sweet benefits, and what looks to be interesting wo…

I need advice. What do you all do to prevent a low at the gym. I know I keep harping on this subject but I seem to really be struggling.
Last night I turned my pump to a 50% basal an hour before working out. I checked my blood it was at 115 before going into the class, so I took some sips of Gatorade and turned my pump to a basal of 0% for the remainder of the time I would be working out just like the diabetes team told me to do.
Halfway through the class I am in, I am sweating. Not your usual…

So, first me and my diabetes...
The interesting thing about being unemployed for a while was that I have managed to be more active and I am definatly eating less. The result, weight loss 8^) Thing is there is a ratio of how much I weigh to how much lantus I need per day. When my weight drops below some magic threshold the lantus needed drops like jumping down a bunch of stairs. So, I managed to spend some quality time this week walking around vaugly low. 8^P After a day or two of struggeling to…

Then, as per usuall, the offeres started comming in all at once. Now, I am at Turbine games near Boston, but today the email from Amazon finally came in. Amazon means Seattle, and d…

Never once has he said no
Everytime I cry he's the one with my tears on his shirt
In no particular way does he say i love you
It comes naturally to him
But to me it's always holding back
Keeping my wall up for my own good
Never once has he disobeyed my trust
But yet i still can't whisper the words back

I saw a therapist for my "issues" but he didn't help me because I refused to let him. I believe strongly that the drive to overcome something as multi-faceted as an eating disorder must come from within yourself. One day, when I was 19 years old, I just decided, "Okay, all this self torture is too difficult to maintain."
I just wanted to feel good. I made a resolution to myself that I would stop thinking I was too awesome to test my blood sugars. I promised myself that I would actu…

I swear, all endos tell people when they are first diagnosed, "You will probably see a cure in five years." Back when I lived up in DC, I met a guy on myspace who was also diabetic. We ended up dating for, hmm, three or four months. It was interesting... dual presex blood sugar testing, dual postsex juice drinking... ok, ok, neither of us was nearly that anal about diabetes care, but you get the idea! Newho, he was diagnosed in 1989 at five years old and was given the same lie. Of course, he has…

SO, I had an endo appt today. It went really well actually. The doctor was happy with how many times I was testing, and so forth. And we made adjustments to my basal I/C ratio, decreasing my amount of total insulin, WOO HOO! Gotta Love going down rather than up! Hope all the lab results turn out good. And my blood pressure was normal today, must have been pretty relaxed. Last time I had high BP probably because I usually get nervous when I go in.

Back when I was in high school (standard 7th or 8th, i think), I studied about various systems in human body - nervous system, digestive system, excretory system etc. The biology teacher made us draw all sorts of diagrams explaining these systems in detail. My favorite one was the digestive system. I liked drawing the esophagus and the large intestine. They looked like a couple of crumpled pipes lying around inside my tummy! There is only one guarantee in life and that is that we will all die. Too bad there is no guarantee we will all live! MELBOURNE researchers have made a breakthrough in the treatment of type-1 diabetes, successfully transplanting insulin-producing cells into a patient.
Glen Waverley mum Elaine Robinson, 54, is the first Victorian to receive the islet cell transplant giving hope to the 140,000 Australians suffering type-1 diabetes.
Type-1 diabetes stops the pancreas from producing insulin; patients instead inject the insulin daily.
The procedure, conducted by staff at the St Vincent’s Hospital, took insulin-pro…
