Chris returned from camp in good spirits and with new friends. He was home for a couple of weeks, and then it was time to return to camp. This time he would not be lounging around the summer camp though, Chris and a select group of 5 other teens with diabetes are climbing Mt. Whitney, the tallest mountain in California. The peak is at something like 14,000 ft. He arrived at camp on Saturday, and Sunday morning they started up the mountain. They should be reaching the peak sometime in the next few days, then they will return to the summer camp. I will pick him up Wednesday. I can only imagine that during these 10 days, the kids will become very good friends. The guides check in with the camp staff every night at 7pm, so for me, no news is good news. If they aren’t calling me then everything must be going great.
Although my time at home without him has been mostly uneventful, it has been a much needed break for me. I
still have almost a week before I have to pick him up. I can’t wait to hear his stories from the mountain top.
