Linking Diabetics Coast 2 Coast

Working out is hard I tell ya. You go on the machines, you pump some iron, you take cardio classes. You lose 4 inches on your waist! Hold on before you get happy for me, there is more.

I actually didn’t believe them when the told me today at the gym when I got measured. She said You lost 4 inches and I said oh really?

Why am I not excited? Well that is because I have been working out since umm September and I lost a total of ummm 2 pounds! WTF? I hit a plateau before I even started.

I know that my diet is not the problem. Well, what the hell is it then? I am working out with a trainer 3 days a week and she works me TRUST ME, and the two days I dont see her I am doing cardio classes. Maybe I need to step up my cardio even more? Ya think?

Please give me suggestions and if you have had a similiar problem.

I feel you!!! I feel like I work my ass off to lose weight...with NO results! It's bizarre because weight loss in general is a very simple equation: eat a little less, exercise a little more, enjoy the results (and if they don't come fast enough, tweak your plan)

So why is this so difficult for diabetics?? This is probably the most infuriating thing for me about my diabetes. Congrats on losing the 4 inches though!! A little success is better than no success!

It's definitely possible: muscle weighs more than fat.

Hi Gina - I have experienced your frustration. I worked out 3 days a week with a trainer for almost a year and lost a grand total of 6 pounds. I had really fabulous muscle definition though. The fact that you lost inches is really fantastic! I would not spend too much time beating your head against the wall about the pounds issue. Don't forget, you're increasing your fitness. This is the most important part. Have you done any heart-rate training? In order to burn fat you must get your heart rate up to 70% of it's maximum. I interval train 3 days a week and try to spend a good deal of my time up over 70% to increase the benefits. Also, I didn't think that I had a diet problem. Well, I got sick of trying and trying and never losing any weight. As a matter of fact the harder I tried the more I gained. It turns out that I was restricting too many calories. I went to a nutrition counselor and got an eating plan. She maps out what I am supposed to eat everyday. She is experienced at working with diabetics (she has one other client right now who is a type 2 that she has coached into a 100 pound weight loss and he is off of insulin) and knows exactly what I need for carbs, fats, proteins. I started with her during the 3rd week of January and I have lost 7 pounds. I have also come down in my body fat percentage 2.7%. She tracks both of those stats at every bi-weekly visit. Have you kept track of your body fat percentages? From your photo you really don't appear as if body fat is an issue! Keep all of these things in mind and maybe the situation will look more rosy to you. Oh, I almost forgot...when I started with the nutritionist I joined a gym and have been cardio and strength training 3 times per week.

Hope this helps!
