Strange

This afternoon I had the strangest thing happen after eating lunch. In all of my 48 years, living with D I don't remember this ever happening. I had eaten lumch, which consisted of a large green salad with some chicken, tomatoes, cucumbers and salad dressing (the real kind of dressing). I also had a half an apple. When I finished I watched tv, thinking I would wait an hour and test to make sure my bg was within safe range before leaving for some errands.

When the hour came to test I felt somewhat strange. I tested and bg was 79 so I took 12 gms of glucose. I tested 30 minutes later and bg was only 81. The 12gms of glucose should have increased my bg more then 2 points. Then I started to feel even stranger. I was looking at tv and the screen looked purple. I dozed off for a few minutes and when I opened my eyes the screen was still purple plus the room seemed darketr and I felt drained. It got to the point that I couldn't move and I didn't try. Several hours laster I continued to feel that way I stayed on the sofa for hours before my eye sight returned to normal.

When I was finally able to move I felt like I had a seriously low incidence of low bg. That type of feeling that leaves you shaky and moving slow. I don't know if anyone has had that type of experience but would like to hear from anyone who has.

MYSTERIOUS LEG PAINS

I've been seeing a Neurologist because of painful legs, that is not Neuropathy. This has been going on for a while. The doctor put me on Lyerica and it helps, sometimes. Now he has decided that further studies need to be done like a doppler test and special bloodwork. I'm wondering has anyone had this experience and what was the outcome? It's frustrating from day-to-day when I wake up I never know what the day will be like. Whether I'll be able to exercise; will I be able to shop; will I be able… Continue

CAR KEYS

Had quite an adventure on Sunday. I went to the Supermarket with the intent of getting an electric knife. I have been wanting an electric knife for quite a while. I could have had one years ago but never just never bought one. Anyway, as I said I went to the market…I also got some tomatoes and lettuce. A

LIVING WITH FEAR

I’ve lived with fear since I was a teen and diagnosed with Diabetes. But I didn’t let fear rule my life. I knew from my almost month stay in the hospital that what I had was serious. I knew from the moment I came out of my coma. My first act to show my Diabetes that I wasn’t going to let it limit me was to walk home from the hospital. It was quite a distance, not sure, of how far it was from where I lived.

Good Days

Today has been a good day. I thought this morning when I got up and moved around how good I felt. I don't usually have real bad days but some are worse then others. I thought I would share the good days as well as the bad. We had rain this morning and in the afternoon the sun came out....I love the sun! I'm not one to sun bathe but the brightness I love.

I ate breakfast and exercised as usual for over 30 minutes. I exercise every morning and then I know my bgs will be good all day. A m…

Last week was a bad one. I traveled to that place where I've been many times (the valley). I experienced high numbers no mater what I did. I changed my site every 2 days, also changed resevoir although it wasn't anywhere near empty. I thought since I don't use that much insulin a day, maybe heat had gotten to it. That didn't cause any changes in bgs, still running around 150 to 160. Finally near the end of the week I had an idea that it could be the bottle of insulin. I opened another vial an…

Hi Betty! Thanks for the welcome. :-) I'm a high normal, and have to watch things. So far, so good. The only time I've had to shoot insulin was in the hospital about a year ago, when the steroid Prednisone shot my sugars way high. I'm about to go through another Prednisone run, so I'll have to watch carefully. My actual problem is something called Tolosa-Hunt Syndrome, so I have to watch the drugs for that as well as the genetics from my dad. I tease him that some kids inherit money, and all I got was diabetes and Leyden 5 factor. :-) Leyden 5 affects blood clotting, so at 51 I've been hospitalized twice for pulmonary embolisms. Our best defense is a sense of humor and to never surrender to despair or depression, and I kind of feel like you understand that. So that's my tale, and the only time I'll bore you with it unless you have questions. I read your page, and then read about insulin pumps. That must have made things so much easier for you. It made me feel stronger and hopeful, and I thank you for that!

It's amazing after 6 years I'm finally getting on the right track. I hope this endo really knocks the uncontrolled part out of the ballpark! :-)
